Currently digging London based designer, Amina Martucci
Amina’s research is inspired by a trio of concepts. The Rorschach test, African culture and slavery. It cannot be disputed that slavery has affected our culture today, both Black and White. Her work explores concepts interlinked such as the Rorschach test and tie dye. The test is designed to let a person respond to ambiguous stimuli revealing hidden emotions and internal conflicts. Tie dye simulating Rorschach reflect the people, the place, the status, and the religions of diverse African populous. This style of cloth is very popular in Senegal, Gambia and Yoruba. The colors are traditional yet modern and are a prominent feature in African art. Imperfections in the printing process and accentuated gradations in saturation that are not obvious provide a set of perceptual processes that could influence how people perceived the stimuli.
